Does any of this sound like you?

These are things my students say to me a lot, so if you recognise yourself, you're in the right place!

I understand everything in my lessons, but when someone asks me a question in real life, my mind goes blank.

I've been "intermediate" for years. My English isn't getting worse, but it isn't really getting better either.

I can write a lovely email. Then I rehearse what I want to say, and the conversation has already moved on.

I know the grammar. I just can't get the words out quickly enough.

The good news is that none of this is a grammar problem. What usually helps most is simply more time speaking, in a kind, relaxed setting where it's fine to make mistakes.

Why a small group helps

A teacher is often the easiest person to talk to. We slow down, we wait, and we understand you even when the word isn't quite right. That's lovely for learning, but real conversations are a little messier. People interrupt, change the subject and don't always wait for you.

A small group gives you a safe place to practise that. You'll be with up to three other people at a similar level, and I'll be there to keep things friendly and make sure everyone gets their turn.

Ways to learn with me

The groups are 60 minutes, once a week, in blocks of five lessons, with no more than four students. One-to-one lessons are available too.

I've got an exam

Cambridge and IELTS speaking

For B2 First, C1 Advanced and IELTS students with an exam date in the diary.

  • The Cambridge speaking test is taken in pairs, and more than half of it is spent talking with the other candidate.
  • We practise the partner tasks together, which are the parts you really can't practise on your own.
  • We work to real exam timings, with useful phrases for agreeing, politely disagreeing and making a decision together.

Ideally, start around three months before your exam.

I'd just like to speak

Everyday confidence

For anyone who uses English at work or on holiday, or who would love to stop planning every sentence in their head first.

  • Every activity is planned, so you'll always know what to talk about.
  • We practise real situations, like explaining a problem, sharing an opinion or answering an unexpected question.
  • There are no tests and no deadlines, just lots of relaxed speaking practice.

Ongoing, and most students stay for several blocks.

I'd prefer one-to-one

Private lessons

Lessons built entirely around you: exam preparation, a job interview, a presentation, or whatever you'd most like to work on. Plenty of students do both, using a group for speaking practice and private lessons for the rest.

Limited evening spaces. Do ask about times and prices on your free chat.

Not sure which is right for you? We can work it out together on your free chat.

How the classes work

A few simple things make sure everyone feels comfortable and gets the most out of each lesson.

Up to four students

Small enough that everyone gets plenty of speaking time, and big enough that you never feel put on the spot.

Everyone gets a fair turn

I keep speaking time balanced, so confident students don't take over and quieter students are gently included.

One thing to work on

You'll leave each lesson with one personal goal, and we'll check in on it the following week.

Getting started is easy

Four simple steps, and the first one is free.

  1. Book a free chat

Fifteen minutes, with no commitment and nothing to prepare.

  2. We check your level

We'll talk about where you are now and what you'd like to be able to do.

  3. I find you a group

With people at your level, at a time that suits you. If there isn't one yet, I'll let you know.

  4. Start speaking

Weekly 60-minute lessons on Google Meet, with nothing to install.

About Lesley

If you're looking for a fun way to improve your English, I think you'll love learning with me! I know how frustrating it is to study for years and still feel stuck, so my classes are built to move you forward and make the English stay with you. I keep tricky grammar simple, teach real British English and, most importantly, help you build confidence that stays with you long after the lesson ends.

I've been teaching English online since 2024, and I hold a Level 5 TEFL Diploma, including observed classroom teaching practice.

Many of my students come to me to prepare for Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced and IELTS exams. Teaching them one-to-one, I noticed that the speaking tests are built around talking with another candidate, which is the one thing a private lesson can't give you. That's how these small groups began.

Before teaching, I spent ten years in fashion and product development, working with factories and colleagues around the world. It taught me that at work, what really matters is being understood, not being perfect. That's what I'd love every student to believe.

Kind words from students

Every review, five stars

"Now English has become a way to have fun."

I have been taking regular lessons with Lesley for more than a year, and I can say that she is one of the best English teachers I have ever had.

My main goal was to become more confident and fluent when speaking English, and Lesley definitely helps me with that! Before, everything I did in English felt like hard work. Now, I enjoy it much more, and English has become a way to have fun and spend my time doing something interesting.

We have also worked on topics that I needed for travelling, job interviews and more. I really like that Lesley adapts the lessons to what each student actually needs.

I always enjoy our lessons and I'm very happy with the progress I've made. I would definitely recommend Lesley to anyone who decides to learn English.

Daria, Russia

Lesley creates a comfortable atmosphere where I finally feel confident speaking. The classes are engaging, practical, and never filled with unnecessary topics. I can see real progress and I enjoy every session.

Monika, Netherlands

Lesley is a very good teacher who always listens. She takes her time to explain things. After just 6 lessons, I can already see the difference in my English.

Gwladys, France

She's very supportive and always makes sure I understand everything before moving on. Her lessons are well-structured, easy to follow, and really help me stay on track. I always feel more confident after our sessions.

Questions you might have

I'm quite shy. Will a group be harder for me?

This is the most common worry, and it's exactly why the groups are small and everyone gets a fair turn. You won't need to compete to speak, and you'll never be left to fill a silence on your own. Every activity is planned, so you'll always know what to talk about. Lots of shy students tell me the second lesson feels much easier than the first.

What if my English isn't good enough?

The groups are for B1 (intermediate) level and above. If you can manage a simple conversation, you're ready. We'll check your level on the free chat, and I'll always be honest if I think it isn't quite the right time yet.

How much does it cost?

Classes are paid for in blocks of five. I'll talk you through the prices on your free chat, once we know which group suits you best. There's no obligation at all.

What if I miss a class?

These things happen! Once per block, with 24 hours' notice, we'll catch up on what you missed, and you'll always get the lesson materials. And if everybody in the group can move a lesson to another evening, we can do that once per block too.

Can I have one-to-one lessons too?

Of course! Plenty of students do both, using the group for speaking practice and private lessons for anything personal to them. Just mention it on your call.

What will I need?

A laptop or tablet, a fairly quiet room and headphones if you have them. We use Google Meet and a shared Google Doc, so there's nothing to buy or install.

What if there isn't a group at my level yet?

I'll let you know on the call and put you first in line for the next one. I'd never put you in a group that isn't right for you just to fill a space.

Rather send a question first?

Email me at hello@englishwithlesley.com. No question is too small, and you're very welcome to write in English or just do your best.

Fancy a chat?

It's just fifteen minutes, with no commitment. We'll talk about your English, what you'd like to achieve and whether a small group is right for you.
